Announcing the Northern Ireland Creative Employment Programme

 6 May 2015

We are delighted to formally announce that Creative & Cultural Skills will be running the Northern Ireland Creative Employment Programme (NI CEP) on behalf of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

While the creative sector continues to grow in Northern Ireland, youth unemployment remains a significant challenge across the economy.
While the creative sector continues to grow in Northern Ireland, youth unemployment remains a significant challenge across the economy.

For the first time, employers from creative businesses in Northern Ireland will be able to access funding to employ an intern or an apprentice.

Over the next three years, NI CEP will seek to establish 100 paid internships and apprenticeships.

Wage subsidies of up to £5,000 will be available for businesses to recruit apprentices (aged 16-24) for a minimum of two years, while up to £1,500 will be paid to businesses to help support interns (aged 18-24) for a minimum of six months.

Championing youth employment

While the creative sector continues to grow in Northern Ireland, youth unemployment remains a significant challenge across the whole economy.

We hope creative employers will jump at this chance to invest in young talent and build their future workforce.

The NI CEP is addressing this challenge by directly supporting employers to create job opportunities for unemployed people aged 16-24.

Young people are the lifeblood of the creative industries, and we hope creative employers will jump at this chance to invest in young talent and build their future workforce.

There is still a lot more we can do as a sector to ensure that talented young people can thrive in and across our industries, regardless of their background or previous educational achievement. NI CEP will champion this fair access principal by creating new entry-level jobs and paid opportunities to work and learn in industry.

In the light of the recent and significant cuts to arts, the NI CEP offers a real opportunity for employers to develop the next generation of talent.

The success of the Creative Employment Programme in England is testament to the value young people are adding to businesses now as well as investing in the future.

A commitment to creative employment

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland first spoke about their commitment to creating employment opportunities when we launched the Building a Creative Nation campaign in Northern Ireland back in November 2013.

NI CEP offers a real opportunity for employers to develop the next generation of talent

This programme delivers on that promise. We look forward to seeing employers play their part in creating new opportunities for young people to develop relevant industry skills and experience.

In doing so, they will help their businesses to grow and the creative sector to flourish.
