Learn more about our Apprenticeship Service

 1 March 2016

The new Apprenticeship Service at Creative & Cultural Skills is working to develop an offer for employers that helps them feel informed and confident about taking on apprentices. While apprenticeships are not a new area of work for us, the delivery of the training is.

Apprenticeships can feel complex for employers who have never taken on an apprentice before. We know of employers that have had challenges in the past, which have put them off taking an apprentice altogether.

All of our apprenticeship assessors come from the industry and maintain their expertise by continuing to work in it.

What we want to do as part of our Apprenticeship Service is show employers that apprenticeships are an alternative but incredibly valuable way to introduce new blood into the workforce, while providing the support and guidance needed to help make this a straightforward recruitment option.

We are still defining our service, but we are committed to responding to the needs of the industry, and putting in place the provision that our apprentices and their employers need. We have partnerships with major employers and 45 education partners across the country, whose advice and support helps us define our service. We are committed to responding to the needs of the industry, and putting in place the provision that our apprentices and their employers need.

Recruitment, legal issues and training

Currently we can help employers with their recruitment including:

  • developing job descriptions
  • advertising apprenticeship positions
  • supporting interviews.

We can also guide employers on the legalities of employing an apprentice and what is deemed best practice recruitment and management.

We are currently developing a programme of industry-led workshops and webinars that will help enrich the learning offer, and in time will provide training for those managing apprentices for the first time.

All of our apprenticeship assessors come from the industry and maintain their expertise by continuing to work in it.

We promise that there will never be a hard sell from us. We only want to support employers who feel apprenticeships are right for them – although our success stories show a range of business that have benefited from taking on an apprentice.
