Melanie joined Creative & Cultural Skills in January 2018, having worked as a freelance Skills Academy Manager from 2015. She is based in Sunderland and works across the North East.
With over 23 years experience in skills, careers, education, business start up and training, working across the north east and nationally, Melanie has always been driven by her desire to support everyone to achieve their full potential. She worked in higher and further education securing external funding and developing new provision and supported graduates around business start up and working as a successful freelancer. She has worked with creative industries sector bodies to develop new qualifications as well as being an apprenticeship assessor. Melanie has worked in and managed information advice and guidance services, developing innovative ways of working across the north east region and has seen first hand the transformative effect careers work can have. As a neuro divergent learner, Melanie has always had a passion for the arts and film as it was these subjects that gave her a buzz when a school and inspired to complete a Degree and Masters in cultural studies way back in the 90s.
Melanie offers support to arts and cultural organisations who wish to diversify their workforce, create routes into the sector so it is a more inclusive workforce. She works with a wide range of stakeholders including training providers, Local Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Combined Authorities focusing on skills, apprenticeships, workforce development and careers. Melanie works with NSA Creative & Cultural Skills Academy colleges and supports in the delivery of programmes designed to improve the provision of skills and training in the creative and cultural industries.
She is committed to her own personal and professional development and spent a week at the `School of Life’ on their intensive summer progamme.
