 7 August 2012

For the past 40 years Bryan Grant has been managing director of Britannia Row Productions, who provide audio equipment and technicians for concerts and events around the world.

"Do what interests or amuses you for as long as it continues to do so."

Hometown?

London.

What job do you do?

I am managing director of Britannia Row Productions. We provide audio equipment and technicians for concerts and events throughout the world. Also, we now offer live sound training courses for anyone aspiring to be a live sound engineer. These days, my job mainly entails administration, sales and marketing for our company.

What previous jobs have you done?

I've been in this job for 40 years, which is way longer than most people get for murder – and there’s no sign of the escape tunnel being finished!

"I'm 60 years old and still stomping around in muddy fields!"

I started out in live sound engineering and tech. I've also worked in music management, tour management, production management, and promoting.

What qualifications do you have?

No formal qualifications. I tried law school but dropped out after two years – it was dull!

What do you do at work?

Meetings, quotes, planning, plotting, scheming, dreaming...

What is the best thing about your job?

The glamour – I'm 60 years old and still stomping around in muddy fields! Especially when it's a dark muddy field, the bands and the audience have all gone home, it's begun to rain, and there are still three trucks to load!

How do I get into music?

Do what interests or amuses you for as long as it continues to do so.

But if you want an easy life, get another job. This way of life isn't always fun, and is often hard work.
