 21 June 2013

Gemma Martin is a front-of-house and marketing apprentice at Chapter Arts Centre.

Gemma Martin gained a wide range of experience working as a front-of-house and marketing assistant during her apprenticeship at Chapter Arts Centre.

Taking on an apprenticeship at Chapter Arts

Gemma was looking for an entry-level job in the arts, so she applied for the apprenticeship vacancy at Chapter Arts Centre.

I wouldn’t have been working at Chapter Arts without going on the course. I love what I do.

Working front-of-house allowed her to learn all about the running of a busy arts centre. This included taking enquiries, working in the box office and assisting with the café bar.

The marketing side saw her helping with mail outs, increasing the organisation's social media presence and supporting PR campaigns.

Gaining new insights and expererience

She also gained an insight into other areas of Chapter’s work. For example, curating exhibitions and organising events and performances.

Gemma enjoyed the opportunity to network and learn new skills in a professional environment.

Gemma said:

“I enjoyed learning about different areas of the business, especially how events and exhibitions are organised. I wouldn’t have been working at Chapter Arts without going on the course. I love what I do.”

Taking on a front-of-house and marketing job

Gemma was taken on as an employee in all three areas: working front-of-house, in the box office and as a freelance marketing assistant.

She is also exploring different career options, including developing her own arts education projects.
