What job do you do?

I’m a Senior Designer at 20/20 Productions

What qualifications do you have?

I have an HND in illustration and an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design

How did you become a Senior Designer?

After I left college, I started my career as an art worker in the print industry, then I became a designer in the same sector.

After that, I transitioned to design work here at 20/20 Productions. I then set up as a freelance designer working with independent clients as well as agency work.

A few years later, I came back to 20/20 as a Senior Graphic Designer, and the rest is history.

What do you do for your job?

I work closely with a wider team of designers, producers, editors and developers to create conceptual ideas to enhance communication.

As Senior Creative I have an overview of all projects that require creative input from the outset

In addition to graphic design I have developed a strong illustration style in character animation, custom designed iconography and assets for motion graphics, which I regularly apply to my client work.

As Senior Creative I have an overview of all projects that require creative input from the outset. I’m also responsible for liaising clients and account handling from the initial client meeting right through to costing and delivery.

What is the best thing about your job?

I absolutely love that I get to be creative every single day. My work allows me to create something out of nothing, so I need an open mind and the energy to work through the creative process.

And the worst thing?

The constant challenge of tight deadlines

How do I get into design?

I think design is so easily accessible today – it’s everywhere in some form or another, from advertising, to product design, to music.

Enrolling on a design course is recommended - most colleges and universities run a design course of some description.

Immersing yourself in a creative lifestyle will be invaluable to your future role.

Importantly, communication is key – get out there and start speaking to others about your passion now! You never know who knows someone who knows someone, so go and make those opportunities for yourself!
