What job do you do?

I am an Events and Marketing Assistant (previously intern) for the NI Science Festival.

How did you get your role?

I randomly came across the internship advertisement whilst browsing the internet one day on the hunt for jobs. I applied for it and, surprisingly, was invited to interview. From there, it’s all history.

Tell me a bit about your day to day work

As an events and marketing assistant my day to day work can vary quite a bit. One day I could be attending meetings with event organisers to discuss event ideas. The next day I could be inputting data into spreadsheets, updating our website or social media, answering phone calls and more.

It’s a great job if you like to do a bit of everything, perfect for a 'jack of all trades' like myself.

How did it feel to win the award?

It was a bit bittersweet because the rest of the NI Science Festival team couldn’t make it to the awards ceremony. We were in the middle of putting our festival together at that point so everyone was super busy. It was really nice, however, to be recognised for the hard work I’ve put in.

What are your plans for the future?

At the moment it’s to work on more festivals and expand my horizons as much as possible. But who knows what the future may bring? Looking to the wise words of Miley Cyrus it “…ain't about what's waiting on the other side. It's the climb...”

What advice would you give to others?

Be proactive and take on as many challenges as you can. By doing this your experiences and skills will increase and will you’ll become more confident in your ability.
