Property-facilities manager

Property and facilities managers in visual arts and cultural heritage run a specific venue or building. They are responsible for the day to day running and maintenance of a facility. This might be a museum, gallery, visitor centre or stately home.

As well as managing the building itself, they can be responsible for:

  • The fixtures and fittings within the building
  • General maintenance of the facility
  • The people working there. 

The duties of a property and facilities manager cover a number of areas. They ensuring the premises are clean, that good security is in place and that in-house catering is up to standard. They often work for clients who own the facility.

They are also responsible for the environmental control and monitoring buildings. This can be critical for the conditions in which collections are housed, including the structure and fabric of buildings. In property and facilities managers may work closely with curatorial staff to ensure that premises are maintained and cleanly appropriately.
