School liaison staff

 21 February 2011

School liaison staff officers work with teachers to provide a strong educational experience for students. Along with teachers, they can also work with development workers or community leaders. They work in cultural and heritage centres, museums and historical sites.

School liaison staff can be contacted by schools and colleges in advance to discuss visits. They give advice on how to get the best out of a visit as well as tailoring a visit to meet specific requirements of the curriculum.

For a particular visit, school liaison staff may have to carry out a range of activities, such as:

  • Planning and organising activities and quizzes to help enhance learning
  • Meeting groups of visitors
  • Guiding visitors on their visit and identifying things of particular interest.

Some school liaison staff will make sure that visitors and children can access learning opportunities. They will also support visitors with special needs.
