Ziza Sery-Bi, cultural venue operations apprentice
Ziza has been working at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) since January 2012 on a Cultural Venue Operations apprenticeship.
Ziza undertakes a series of operational duties whilst specialising in IT.
He supports the maintenance of the systems and the building, and one of his main jobs is to assist with the IT Helpdesk and help with the supervision of the office machinery.
He also greets visitors and helps with their queries as and when required.
"I don’t think I would have had this opportunity without an apprenticeship"
Getting into cultural venue operations
Ziza was at college before the apprenticeship and was wondering what he next step would be. Then he saw the advertisement for the post at the ICA.
He applied through City of Westminster College and after two interviews secured the apprenticeship.
Learning all the operations at ICA
This apprenticeship has enabled Ziza to progress his knowledge of IT systems.
When I saw the advert I couldn’t imagine myself working at a place like the ICA.
He is competent with IT systems across both PC and Apple platforms. Ziza has learnt to prioritise tasks and keep on top of multiple projects .
He has been involved at looking at all the systems and giving feedback on how to improve them.
Thoughts on apprenticeships
“When I saw the advert I couldn’t imagine myself working at a place like the ICA, but when I thought about it I really liked the idea.
"I applied and was successful and I am so glad I did, as I have learnt so much.
