Every show hopes for good reviews. Journalists get the word out about the show to the public. They make sure people know what shows are on offer and what is happening in the world of theatre.

An author writes either fiction or non-fiction books. These are sometimes also adapted for other media. This can include television and radio serialisation or a film adaptation.


Backstage crew need to be able to unload scenery, maintain and repair the 'flying' equipment and scenery.

Brand designers work with the client to understand what image or mood they want to project and come up with designs to create a brand identity. They are usually graphic designers who have decided to specialise in this type of work

CAD/CAM designer

CAD/CAM designers use CAD (computer-aided design) to produce jewellery designs and CAM (computer-aided manufacture) to create a product.

Carpenter

Carpenters and joiners in the theatre & dance sector and crafts sector work with wood. They work in theatres or in workshops. In the theatre & dance sector, they specifically make, fit or repair scenery and props that are part of a play or show.

A cartoonist draws pictures and cartoons to amuse, educate and influence people. Cartoonists have a variety of avenues to show their work, including:

Casting involves pouring molten metal into a mould and allowing it to solidify. Casting technicians work with a range of metals to produce jewellery pieces.

Catering staff can work in a range of facilities in heritage sites, including restaurants, cafes and kiosks. They may also cater for events and functions.

Chain making is a particular technique of metalsmithing. You need to be good with your hands to specialise in chain work.

Classical musician

Classical musicians perform, compose or conduct music. They are trained to an extremely high standard in one or more instruments. A classical musician primarily plays an instrument or sings live. They may also record classical music, do session work for backing tracks, conduct performances, or write music.
