I have recently completed an MA in Textile and am interested in working in Costume Production.

Is there anywhere online, where i could find a list of costume production companies to contact abour work experience and careers?

Thank you

Hello There isn't a list as such that I'm aware of. I've never encountered a business doing this other than Angels of London, but there are several ways forward. Costumes are generally made either in house (So within a theatre or tv company or producing house) or by freelance costume makers who move from company to company If you haven't already I would suggest a good Google search of theatres and theatre company's in your area. That might give you an idea of people you can make contact with. I would also do a search for freelance costume designers or makers. Using those lists i'd think about offering services as an assistant on larger projects to build up contacts and experience in this very particular skill. Despite having a textile qualification, theatre design is very specific and designs effected by the practical needs of each piece , so I would suggest this is the best way to go. Also sign up for artsjobs.co.uk for daily updates on possible work you can apply for. Finally don't underestimate volunteering for a local am dram group to try out the work. They'll be pleased to have you and you can get a better understanding of which area of theatre costume work most appeals. Best of luck.

Hi B. Brock,

I only recently received your query, so sorry for the delay in responding.

Have you tried the Creative Skillset Trainee Finder? http://creativeskillset.org/who_we_help/young_creative_talent/ways_creative_industries/trainee_finder

It is essentially a paid internship scheme for those looking to gain experience in TV and Film Production.  They offer a variety of roles across the production grades.  If you have not done so already, do create a profile on HiiVE where employers in film and tv advertise current vacancies.  https://app.hiive.co.uk/talent/

Also, check out the Theatre Design Organisation.

http://www.theatredesign.org.uk/about/links/

I also encourage you to connect with organisations such as Film London and offer your services to filmmakers who are awarded funding under their Microwave Film Fund.

Hope that helps...
