I need to tap into my passion for design and creativity

I am a currently a 36 year old charity fundraising manager who can no longer ignore my call to be involved in a more creative career. I started out studying art design and photography when I was young and then wandered away into well paid alternative work. I really want to get back into tapping into my passion for design and creativity and I am a bit daunted by how I should approach this.

I would very much welcome some advice from someone within the industry.

With great thanks

Hi Mel

I'd highly recommend undertaking an internship of some sort in a design studio. It may be that you could arrange a day or two a week away from your current role at the charity. This way, you get to keep the security of your paid job, whilst testing the water for a career in design.

I would also look at a part-time design related course – something again you could fit into your current schedule. Depending on your location, there are many colleges which offer some great, low cost short courses, which would include photography, design and typography to mention a few.

All of the above is means to test your level of commitment before you (possibly) make the leap.

Hope that helps.
