Making Creative Choices better: you spoke and we listened

,  26 February 2015

In November we asked you – the people that use Creative Choices – to tell us your thoughts about where it should go next. Here are four main areas that you said you would like to see improvement in and what we're going to do about it.

Creative Choices has provided over 2.6 million people with careers information and advice.
Creative Choices has provided over 2.6 million people with careers information and advice.

1. You want to see more jobs

What did you tell us?

When we asked about the areas of Creative Choices you use find the most useful, 77 per cent of you chose the jobs and opportunities listings among your selections.

But many of you commented that you would like to see a greater number of job vacancies advertised.

What are we going to do about it?

Creative organisations can already post their job vacancies for free, but we're going to do more to let employers know that they can lists any jobs, apprenticeships and paid internships without paying a thing.

On top of this, we will be pulling in job feeds from some of our creative partners, so this year we expect the number of vacancies will increase.

You also told us that you find it beneficial when we promote the jobs on Facebook and Twitter, so this will continue to be part of our long-term social media strategy.

2. You want to see changes to the job profiles

What did you tell us?

It was good to know that half of you make use of the creative career job profiles useful. However, there was some feedback about them being difficult to navigate.

What are we going to do about it?

We are going to change the way that you find your way around the job profiles, including making navigation between the listings and the profiles much easier.

We know that images can slow you down when you're scrolling through the listings, so we want to give you the option of being able to scroll using a text-only version to cut out any loading time, so you'll be able to get where you want much more quickly.

3. You want mid-career advice too

What did you tell us?

You want to see more advice and guidance for people who are established professionals or further along in their careers.

What are we going to do about it?

While Creative Choices is targeted at career starters and those in the early stages of their careers, we regularly publish content that can benefit people at all stages of their careers, on topics such as:

Our Creative Voices blog also caters for anyone who has interest in issues and opinions relating to creative careers.

4. More for careers advisors and teachers

What did you tell us?

Teachers and careers advisors that responded to the survey told us that they use the advice and insights on Creative Choices to pass on to their students: at least 15 per cent of Creative Choices users are in this category.

We also found that many students were surprised they hadn't been told about us by their school, college or university.

What are we going to do about it?

We're pleased that teachers and careers advisors are finding Creative Choices to be an effective resource for industry-endorsed careers information. We want to do more to reach out to them.

We're figuring out how, but one idea includes offering packages of careers content which can be made available as downloads to be used in the classroom.

Thanks again to everyone who took the survey and fed back your ideas about where Creative Choices should go in the future.

We are now running the 2015 Creative Choices survey. Make sure you have your say.
