Acting: Contemporary (for ages 12–17)
for young people who want to further develop their acting skills to perform contemporary works.
This weekend course is for young people who want to further develop their acting skills to perform contemporary works for stage. The two-day intensive course is designed to introduce you to the techniques and skills required to approach contemporary texts, analyse characters, and learn how to use your voice and body for performance.
Taking place on campus, you will be led through a series of practical, creative exercises within the group, enabling you to grow in confidence and feel able to perform contemporary dialogue and scenes. We hope the course will inspire you to go and find out more about contemporary plays and playwrights that you may not have previously come across.
By the end of the weekend course you should have:
explored dialogue and text using examples from several contemporary texts
learned how to use your voice and body more effectively on stage
worked on a selection of short scenes with others in the class
considered the difference between classical texts and how an actor needs to be able to adapt between the two
been introduced to character analysis
You do not need any previous acting experience to take part in this course. The course leader will ensure all course content is accessible for you in the rehearsal room so you can get as much out of the course as possible.
