Contemporary Dance Summer School (for ages 13 – 17)

This challenging five-day summer school is for young people aged 13 – 17.

Date: 5 August 2019, 10:00 — 9 August 2019, 16:00

This challenging five-day summer school is for young people aged 13 – 17 who are interested in the exploration of contemporary dance concepts and styles, and hope to strengthen technical and creative skills.

Taught by an experienced dancer and choreographer, the course will focus on the foundations of contemporary dance technique, release and floor work. Contemporary dance technique classes work rigorously on precision and musicality through rhythmic and lyrical exercises. Daily practice will begin to build your strength, flexibility and stamina, preparing you for rehearsal and performance.

You will be expected to creatively engage with other students in the group and also complete some partner work and solo tasks.

By the end of this course participants will have:

improved their dance performance technique

developed their understanding of body, movement and special awareness

experienced a professional approach to practice

explored contemporary dance concepts, styles and choreography

This summer course is aimed at young people who wish to improve their dance technique and is also suitable for those considering further dance training.

It will take place in one of our beautiful dance spaces at the Wallace Studios at Speirs Locks and will culminate in an informal sharing on the last afternoon of the course for family and friends.
