Introduction to Scenic Art

This two day course will introduce you to the materials, tools and techniques a scenic artist needs.

This practical two day course will introduce you to the materials, tools and techniques a scenic artist employs in painting sets for stage.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in reproducing authentic looking surfaces for stage.

You will work on the scaling-up, drawing, texturing and painting of a ‘corner of a room’, complete with, distressed plaster, peeling wallpaper, chequered floor, wood panelling and rusty pipes.

You will have the opportunity to try:

drawing up from scale

interpretation of a design

layering of a painting: base, textures, work up washes and detailing.

faux finishes

trompe l’oeil

ageing of surfaces
