Conservation and Collections Adviser

Location: Pan Wales

Salary: £29,850 to £36,500

This is an interesting, demanding, exciting and rewarding role for a qualified conservator. It provides the opportunity to work with local libraries, museums and archives services across Wales, many of which do not have access to in-house conservation services, and to support them to achieve high standards of collections care and management, and meet the requirements of professional standards including Museum and Archive Service Accreditation. The post offers the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of local services each of which hold unique and varied collections, and to gain broad experience of the challenges faced by these organisations in caring for their collections.

The role also provides the opportunity to contribute to the development of Welsh Government policy in relation to collections for the museums, archives and libraries sector, and to gain experience in managing UK-wide cultural property schemes. Welsh Language skills not required but support will be provided for any applicant wishing to learn.

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

  1. A recognised and relevant professional qualification in conservation by the time you start and to have achieved, or be willing to achieve, the Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PACR) qualification, administered by Icon

  2. Recent professional experience in a collections management/collections care role

  3. Experience of developing and implementing collections management/collections care policies and strategies for cultural organisations
