Based at The Place, a creative powerhouse for dance development, London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) has been preparing young artists for a physically rigorous and highly creative profession for 50 years. The school ensures that its students are versed in the skills and knowledge that will enable them to achieve a lifelong career within the professional dance industry, in whatever shape that may take. An education at LCDS is grounded in a culture that celebrates the young emergent critical artistic voice, which gives it space, acknowledgment and above all works to develop its uniqueness.  

With 150 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates from all over the world, LCDS pushes the boundaries of what dance can be through an educational portfolio comprising; BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance, MA/PGDip Contemporary Dance with two performance pathways and MA Screendance.

LCDS is looking for new Costume Assistant (Trainee) to join our busy Costume team in supporting staff, students and professional choreographers to aid in the creation, selection and maintenance of costumes for a range of performance activities. Projects within the last few years have included:

  • Constructing costumes for site-specific projects with well-known choreographers
  • Working with professional choreographers and designers to create costumes for LCDS Graduation Performances
  • Recreating costumes for the restaging of work by Richard Alston Dance Company
  • Creating costumes for collaborations with Postgraduate students from Guildhall School of Music and Drama

We are looking for someone with a passion for dance, fashion and historical costume who is looking to build a career in Costume. We can provide development opportunities within this role to learn about fitting and costume construction for contemporary dance and management of a costume store. You will need prior experience of working within a costume production team and a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
