Creative Careers Manager

£30,000 - £35,000, dependent on experience

Overview of Role

This important role presents a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference both to the UK’s creative industries and the lives of thousands of young people across the country.

Together with our partners, Creative & Cultural Skills and ScreenSkills, the Creative Careers Manager will work with the Head of Creative Careers to deliver the new Creative Careers Programme - an industry-led, government-supported initiative that will see leading figures working with schools and colleges to raise awareness of employment opportunities across the creative economy.

Through the Programme, around 2 million young people will be able to access better advice about pursuing a creative career, and brands such as Burberry, Penguin Random House, and the Design Museum will be at the forefront of engaging with over 160,000 students within the next year.

With the Head of Creative Careers, the appointed candidate will work closely with a diverse range of creative organisations, businesses and individuals across the country, mobilising, spotlighting, and supporting them in their engagement with young people and schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head of Creative Careers and our partners, Creative & Cultural Skills and ScreenSkills, to deliver the Creative Careers Programme and ensure its success
  • Manage key aspects of the Programme, ensuring that objectives are delivered on time and to budget
  • Be at the forefront of engagement with creative organisations, businesses, and individuals from across the sector, inspiring them to get involved in and contribute to the Programme
  • Track and spotlight the many existing successful initiatives across the creative industries that align with the aims and objectives of the Programme
  • Ensure processes are in place to enable effective project management, and oversee their implementation and ongoing development
  • Support the Head of Creative Careers in tracking resource, value-in-kind commitments, and industry engagement
  • Support the Head of Creative Careers in key meetings and external engagements, preparing documents, taking minutes, and ensuring all follow-up actions are completed
  • Prepare and provide both written and spoken updates for key stakeholders, including industry and government
  • Work with the Head of Creative Careers and our partners to seek opportunities for the Programme’s long-term sustainability and development

Required Experience, Knowledge and Skills:


  • Project management skills, with experience of delivering multiple objectives within a given timeframe
  • Diplomatic skills, with the ability to inspire individuals and organisations, and secure their commitment
  • A driven and can-do attitude, with proven experience of overcoming challenges to deliver particular outcomes
  • Experience of managing multiple and diverse stakeholders, and prioritising their needs
  • An understanding of the education, skills and employment landscape
  • An excellent communicator with strong written and spoken skills
  • A passion for the creative industries


  • Knowledge of the UK’s creative industries and the range of businesses, organisations, and individuals that make up the sector
  • A network of contacts across the creative industries
  • Experience of working with industry and employers on practical initiatives
  • Experience of working on programmes that engage with young people

The Creative Careers Programme was shaped by industry for industry as part of the Creative Industries Sector Deal. It has attracted over £12m of in-kind industry investment to date, and £2m of government funding to get it off the ground. The appointed candidate will be joining the Federation at the outset of the Programme’s delivery, and working to the priorities of the sector at large.
