Christies are offering a portfolio of online courses which take a practical and hands-on learning approach, that combine theory and applied learning in context with leading art world experts.

Christies are offering one free place per course for bright individuals who are considering their first career move into the art world. The courses are:

1. History of Jewellery Design: 1880-Now – This will explore the glamour and exquisite craftsmanship of Haute Joaillerie and take you through periods of jewellery design from the Belle Epoque to the present day. You will have the opportunity to encounter the patrons, jewellers and fashions that made Europe the epicentre of influential new and artisanal styles, and see the global reach of high jewellery in the twenty-first century. 2. Art Market Economics: Just launched, this is an intensive and in-depth course designed to introduce you to the essential features of today’s art market. Over six weeks, you will learn about the development and structure of the art markets in key regions; critical economic theory for understanding the market; art finance; regulation; and the economic impact of the art market. Inside the Global Contemporary Art World –  If you are looking for a guide to today’s art world: who’s who and who’s hot in institutions, artists, galleries, fairs etc., this is the course for you. In an age of global communication, where art works are breaking records at auction and artists act more like celebrities than bohemian rebels, we no longer see the art world as an autonomous body working within a small community. On this course you will look into the contributing factors affecting these changes and the shape in which the global contemporary art world is evolving. 4. The Great Masters of European Art 1350-1850 – Discover the essentials of European art history from 1350-1850 in these six lavishly-produced lessons. This course will provide an introduction to European art history, with interviews with the CEO of The European Fine Arts Fair, a curator at the National Gallery, and documentaries about Christie’s Old Masters sales. Over six weeks, the course will take you from the Early Renaissance in Italy through to Romanticism in Britain, introducing you to the artists they call the great masters. By looking in detail at the principal works of the masters, you will develop an understanding of the major styles they have come to represent, and their influence on successive generations of artists.
