Learning & Participation micro internship
Do you like stories? Are you full of enthusiasm?
£7.70 per hour (under 25)
Application deadline: January 20th 2020
We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic interns to help the Learning & Participation team deliver our Extreme Reading Adventures programme. Extreme Reading Adventures is a very successful project, now in its 6th year, aimed at children who have been identified as ‘reluctant readers’. This summer we are working with a group of 8 schools to identify a group of around 20 children aged 8-12, whom the schools have identified as failing to make the expected progress in their reading. A large number of these students have English as an Additional Language. Over six weekly sessions the children will explore six books, each with a related ‘adventure’ activity. The programme is designed to help children make emotional connections with reading and to stimulate their desire to read, encouraging them to start reading for pleasure and thereby improving their literacy skills. Feedback from both parents and teachers has been very positive and we are very fortunate to have secured funding to run this scheme as a free activity for those taking part.
You’ll be a willing learner, keen to understand the aims of the Museum and to contribute your skills, able to work independently and collaboratively – and happy to take on whatever task comes your way. You may have just left school or college and be wondering what to do next. You may be working part time and considering a move into a heritage or cultural role.
As long as you’re available to work in Oxford and can commit to the role for 25 days between Monday 22 April and Sunday 14 June, then we’re keen to hear from you.
