JOAN+ Drama and Heritage project : Register your interest

Put on a production of Oh What A Lovely War and be part of a national arts and heritage project.

UK COLLEGES: JOAN +: Show your interest to be part of a national project for the centenary of the First World War.

We are working with a number of leading Drama Schools and Museums to mount a joined up production of Oh What A Lovely War to commemorate the centenary of Joan Littlewood’s birth, and the First World War. With a cascade of productions across the country, the plan is to allow local schools to learn about the Great War as an audience to the production’s illuminating satire, and to have college students twinned with other creatives across the country.

Participating colleges would need to put together a team of staff to manage their production, who would be committed to being part of a professional development programme. This programme would allow them to work with key individuals from UK drama schools in October 2014 to agree a project plan.

They would then mount a production at some point between January and September 2015, marketing it to local schools to make sure young people get the chance to attend.

Within the growth of the project we are looking at an optional contribution to a national production bringing together scenes from different productions in Autumn 2015.

Colleges will be provided with project workbooks, databases of key individuals who can support the project through masterclasses and workshops, and online mentoring.
If the project works, we would investigate whether a national project of this scale could be a national biennial event potentially with international reach longer term.

We are giving Founder Colleges first refusal on the opportunity, and will then allow additional spaces to be filled by Associate colleges ready for the first stage of planning in Autumn 2013.

Please email us by 30 September to register your interest in taking part.
