JOAN +: War of the Stages. Creative & Cultural Skills and the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama will be working in partnership to create a national performance opportunity of Oh What a Lovely War. Book your tutors onto the 15 March event.

Creative & Cultural Skills and the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama will be working in partnership to create collaboration between learners, production staff and leading creative companies starting on 15 March 2014 to recognize the anniversary of the start of World War I and Joan Littlewoods’s birth. JOAN+ aims to create a number of new productions of the director’s landmark production Oh What Lovely War for a new generation, and in the process allow each institution to grow progression relationships with each other and schools, gain a 12 month promotional campaign and access to student and tutor mentoring.

The project will be introduced on Saturday 15 March as part of a large scale Production Exploration event at RADA in London. The day will allow the proposed creative teams to start shaping ideas, and gain insights from the original production’s influences, current directors, and training from staff of CDD. As part of the event each college can bring the key members of their production team (we suggest a Director, designer and Production Manager). Future workshops are happening across the country (in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Plymouth), but RADA have kindly hosted to run the launch in London.

Joan Littlewood brought theatre to the community, and to celebrate the two anniversaries we propose engaging 75 schools, 15 Colleges and 8 specialised performance training spaces with circus, music and performance training. In the process students and tutors will be part of a learning community realising progression routes and opportunities outside of their own institutions. The project will include a Summer school in July 2014, support to mount productions in Spring 2015 and a planned coming together of all productions in Summer 2015.
