National Art & Design Saturday Clubs
Founder Colleges inspire future students through National Art and Design Saturday Clubs
UK COLLEGES: Get involved with the National Art & Design Saturday Club
Six of our Founder Colleges are taking part this year in the Sorrell Foundation’s National Art & Design Saturday Clubs. The 30 week course gives 14-16 year olds the chance to develop practical skills, access college facilities, and work with professional artists and designers.
Sussex Downs College, City of Westminster College, the Grimsby Institute, Gateshead College, New College Nottingham, and North Herfordshire College are running the scheme. They provide a blend of inspiring visits to museums and galleries, and hands-on experience with resources that are often not available in schools. The option to attend a Masterclass with a prestigious art or design professional is also available.
Students from previous years’ clubs have exhibited work in a Summer Show at Somerset House, and participated in a national portrait project at the V & A Museum.
Due to having your college open on a Saturday, you will incur some costs- existing colleges have found these to be roughly £12,000, with the Sorrell Foundation covering the costs of the Masterclass and the London visits. However, the role the clubs play in inspiring students to go into art or design careers, and introducing them to the environment and advantages of a college, means that many colleges make this investment back through alumni taking up FE courses at the college.
