Royal Opera House: Sleeping Beauty Design Challenge launches

Put the dates for the upcoming Royal Opera House: Sleeping Beauty Design Challenge in your diary.

UK COLLEGES: Application deadline is 12 September.

We can now reveal the resources for the Royal Opera House: Sleeping Beauty Design Challenge.

Across the categories of Educational Resource, Marketing, and Costume, Set, Makeup and Hair design, students will develop their entries with the chance to attend workshops with design professionals from the Royal Opera House.

As well as gaining an insight into Ballet, students will work to briefs which easily fit into the requirement of course modules, to produce bodies of work and final pieces which will be judged by professionals from the Royal Opera House.

The shortlisted participants are invited to the Royal Opera House to watch a matinee performance of the piece, see their work exhibited, and hear the winners announced.
The winners of each category benefit from a bespoke work experience placement with the Royal Opera House.

Here are some provisional dates for your diary so you can begin your planning if you’d like to take part:

  • Tutor CPD materials released: 18 September. PLEASE NOTE: We currently have only 3 tutors signed up to attend a CPD session on this date. Please reply to this email by 5 September if you would like to attend. If there is not enough take-up, we will replace this session with additional resources on the website instead.
  • Deadline for design process (in preparation for judging): 24 January
  • Shortlisted applicants announced: 28 February
  • Matinee and exhibition of Shortlisted applicants: 19 March
