Melanie has spent twenty years working in the skills, training, careers and business start up arena.
Since 2013 she has run Shee’s Creative Consultancy and Training and as part of this works as the Skills Academy Network North East Manger for Creative & Cultural Skills. Melanie also delivers training sessions covering areas such as `Getting into the Creative Industries’ and `Encouraging Creativity in the Workplace’ and `Networking effectively’.
Melanie worked in and managed careers guidance services in the north east of England for over ten years before moving to work within the creative and cultural sector.
For the last eleven years she has worked in the creative and cultural skills sector developing a wide range of new qualifications and training for the creative and cultural sector as well as creating business support and network. She has worked at a specialist art and design college supporting undergraduates through setting up and running an incubation space for young creative entrepreneur as well as opening and managing a retail shop, staffed by students to sell/test trade a range of hand made designer products with over 60 regional sellers.
Melanie has also work as a business advisor and mentor, supporting creative businesses and freelancers develop their business plans and seek funding from the national start up loan company to set up their own business/practice. She also provides mentoring to creative undergraduates at a north east university.
She has worked with organisations such as the Production Guild to develop and deliver an innovative producer training programme as well as The Craft Council in the delivery of Hothouse a programme to support emerging markers.
Melanie has an MA in Cultural and Textual Studies, a degree in the History Art, Design and Film. She is committed to her own personal and professional development and spent a week at the `School of Life’ on their intensive summer progamme!
Melanie was diagnosed as dyslexic as an adult, she has firewalked, owns three cats, has written a little book `For the Love of Hartley’ and adores watching Mad Men and looking at stained glass!
