Professional Diploma in Technical and Production
In collaboration with the National College for the Creative and Cultural Industries, we are offering a new Professional Diploma in Technical and Production at Level 4.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a brand new course which has been designed by employers in the sector, including:

It will be delivered in its first year at The Backstage Centre and other industry settings. It is accredited by University of the Arts London Awarding Body.
Get the skills for a job in any venue
The Technical and Production Professional Diploma is designed to equip you for a job as a technician in any theatre, music or live events venue in the country.
After one year, you will be able to start a career working behind-the-scenes in theatres and at gigs, concerts and live events, contributing to lighting, sound and production management.
Year 1 Unit 1: Establishing Principles of Technical and Production Practice
This unit is designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to explore, enhance and sustain their professional development and determine a standard from which all other activities and learning will develop.
Year 1 Unit 2: Applied Professional Practice
This unit further develops and refines your professional skill levels by placing them directly within a professional environment and exposing them to the realities of the workplace. You will have the opportunity of applying the technical and production skills acquired from your previous unit and testing them out in a professional context.
Year 1 Unit 3: Professional Development Project
This ‘signature’ unit provides you with an opportunity to take control of your own professional development by independently initiating, researching, establishing and completing a production project.
After one year, you will be able to start a career working behind-the-scenes in theatres and live events.
The course year will run from mid-September 2016 to 31 July 2017.
Students are required to commit one full week at the start of the course (commencing 26 September 2016) and thereafter an average of three days per week throughout the full year of the course.
Applicants must be 18 years or older by August 31 2016, and have achieved five Grade A-Cs at GCSE, and a qualification at Level 3 such as a Level 3 Apprenticeship, BTEC, A levels and/or an Arts Award.
Experience of working in a production or technical role in school, amateur, or professional theatre, film or events would be an advantage but not essential. Adult learners including those in a current relevant role will be welcome.
The course fee is £5,421 in the UK and EU (subject to change) or £8,000 overseas. Loans are available from the Student Loans Company to cover tuition fees for those who need it, repayable only when you earn above a certain threshold.
Applying for the Professional Diploma in Technical and Production is simple. Prospective students need to fill in our short application form. The process is as follows:
One-to-one interview with the Principal and a short written assessment based on real work skills and challenges.
Following a successful interview, students will be invited to our Industry workshop day on 14th September. All applicants will be informed on the day whether they are successful
The successful applicants will return for enrolment and induction which begins on Thursday 29th September
