Creative Toolkit provides information on a number of career topics:

  • Getting experience
    Guidance on how get experience to enter the entertainment industry.
  • Work placements
    Understand how organisations operate and the various types of work placements available.
  • Tax essentials
    Advice on how to understand the tax system, and access any state benefits for which you may qualify.
  • Career training
    Whether attending training courses and workshops, or learning on the job, find advice on getting the training you need.

Developed by the UK's media and entertainment trade union, BECTU, the Creative toolkit website provides good information about key employment and other rights.

  • Legal overview
    Outlining your rights at work, and how to enforce them.
  • National Minimum Wage
    Providing solid advice on the National Minimum Wage.
    Also – very useful for creatives – guidance on what to do if you're making a creative project with friends, don’t have much money, but don’t want to exploit anyone.
  • Equality
    There is a raft of legislation in the UK designed to combat discrimination, and the website links to guidance for areas of these laws.
  • Health & Safety
    As well as understanding the general responsibilities of Health and Safety, you can access a list of important safety regulations, and personally to identify which of them is relevant to your particular job.
