Cultural sector employers in Scotland can now access our series of expert information and guidance sessions and 1:1 support free of charge, thanks to support from Creative Scotland.

Free training in Scotland

Based on our core package of Fair Access Sector Support and tailored specifically for Scotland’s cultural sector, the sessions are designed to empower employers to adopt inclusive and lawful recruitment practices which both support sector growth and develop a more diverse range of talent, strengthening the principles of fair opportunity as part of Scotland’s Fair Work Framework.

Online sessions will take place between February and October 2022, and will be led by Kathryn Willens, our Head of Partnerships in Scotland, alongside our UK-wide team. We’ll also offer 1:1 support and guidance sessions, where we can provide bespoke advice around the topics covered in the wider sessions.

Introducing a Workforce Recruitment Policy

This session will support employers to create and implement a meaningful policy that encourages them to actively consider the different entry routes they use and why and realise the recruitment approaches and commitments they will make as a company, with diversity and inclusion at the heart.

A Best Practice Guide to Recruitment

This session takes employers through the various steps of inclusive and diverse recruitment practices, from understanding different work-based entry routes into the sector and their basic legalities, to recognising unconscious bias and putting steps in place to improve workforce recruitment within your own organisation.

Working with Freelancers

This session will guide employers through the legal boundaries of working with the self-employed, from understanding the definition of a freelancer and the benefits and risks to your business when working with them, to realising what you are responsible for, as the hiring business.

Understanding Volunteering

This session will help employers ensure they have all the basics covered for understanding the conditions that describe genuine volunteering, as opposed to unpaid work, and how this route can be positioned as a step into paid employment.

This is an information session for employers who are considering taking on apprentices for the first time and want to understand more about this entry route, how they work and the practical steps to introducing them to your organisation.

A Manager’s Guide to Apprenticeships

This session is designed to support those who are new to managing apprentices and are looking to take on their first apprentice. It covers what apprentices are and why they’re important, open recruitment, working with those who are new to the world of work, safeguarding/pastoral care and working with training providers.

England-based organisations can access our Arts Council England funded programme here and Northern Ireland-based organisations can access our Arts Council of Northern Ireland funded programme here.
