Creative & Cultural Skills says goodbye to Jennie Godsalve
After 11 years with Creative & Cultural Skills, Partnership Manager Jennie Godsalve is leaving to take on a new challenge. Practising what she’s been preaching for over a decade, Jennie is set to become an apprentice as she takes her career in a new direction as a primary school teacher. We spoke to her to find out more.
I didn’t always work in the cultural sector. For ten years I worked in construction recruitment which involved very long hours on construction sites across England. I joined Creative & Cultural Skills in 2008 as an engagement advisor working on engaging heritage partners throughout the UK.
Over the years I’ve held a number of job titles, including engagement advisor, head of engagement, Creative Employment Programme advisor and my current role of partnership manager. Despite being called different things, the essence of my job has usually stayed the same. I’ve always been engaging employers, creating partnerships and widening entry routes in the creative industries.
I was drawn to working with Creative & Cultural Skills because I wanted to be part of an industry that was exciting and full of creativity. Working with them gave me the chance to change a young peoples’ lives and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to work in such a vibrant and successful sector
I’d like to hope that I’ve left a real legacy from my work.
My proudest moment was being publicly recognised by our management team for being a key member of staff who worked to change the cultural sector’s knowledge and view of apprenticeships back in the early days of our existence. I’d like to hope that I’ve left a real legacy from my work.
The thing I will miss the most is all the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with, both within Creative & Cultural Skills and the wider sector.

I’m now heading off to fulfil a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. I’ll be completing an apprenticeship, training to be a primary school teacher. I’ve got Year 5s so it’ll be a baptism of fire!
It's been a pleasure to work at Creative & Cultural Skills and see our work make a huge difference. I never thought I'd be here for this long, but the change and opportunities to try something new kept coming! And I really believe our work impacts a lot of lives.
I shall continue to follow the Creative & Cultural Skills journey with the pleasure of knowing I've been part of its achievements.
