New ‘Pathfinder’ school opens in Cardiff
Sarah Hughes, Head of Skills Academy Wales, attended the opening of Cardiff West Community High School. Through a contract with Cardiff Council, Creative & Cultural Skills acts as a ‘Cultural Broker’ for the school, developing opportunities through the Cardiff Creative Education Partnership.
On 15 July 2019 Cardiff West Community High School opened the doors of their brand new, state-of-the-art building, consisting of a full size 3G+ football/rugby pitch, sports hall and activity suite. The rooms have been designed to maximise creativity and learning with multiple spaces such as a hall with tiered seating, music practise rooms and a library area including a quiet pod for focussed reading.
The school’s motto is ‘Create your World’ and through the Cardiff Creative Education Partnership they are developing links with the exciting creative economy in Cardiff. Creative & Cultural Skills is a founding partner of this group, which also includes Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museums Wales, BBC, Cardiff and Vale College, Cardiff Metropolitan University, City of Cardiff Council, University of South Wales, Wales Millennium Centre and Welsh National Opera.
Sarah Hughes said “Creative & Cultural Skills believes strongly in the importance of links between employers and education. We want to inspire young people to understand the breadth of opportunities available through creative careers. Cardiff is a vibrant city and we are delighted to be able to help encourage the next generation of talent in Wales by raising their aspirations and awareness of the booming creative economy in Cardiff.”
