Portsmouth Guildhall hosts their fifth annual Creative Choices Day
On Wednesday 30 January Portsmouth Guildhall hosted their fifth annual Creative Choices day, for students in Years 9 – 13.
Young people had the opportunity to learn more about various creative careers in Lighting, Sound, Front of House Management, Marketing, Directing and Stage Management and were able to speak directly to experts in the industry.
Highlights included having the chance to work with professionals from Ticketmaster, inventing and planning their fantasy festivals. White Light gave an hands-on workshop on how to tell stories with stage lighting and Strong Island Films had young people creating and shooting a documentary, telling their stories in under 50 minutes.
Partnership Manager Sam Hawkins attended the event and gave a talk about Creative & Cultural Skills and the creative industries. He said “Organisations such as the Guildhall, and all the workshop leaders there yesterday, show there is enormous energy across the region going into encouraging the next generation of creative workforce. These professionals are essential and Creative & Cultural Skills is delighted to be supporting their passion for skills sharing.
There is nothing like getting hands on at an open doors event like this to show that any young person with curiosity and a willingness to get stuck-in can and should pursue a rewarding and varied career in the arts. Creative & Cultural Skills is delighted that Guildhall Creative Choices is in its fifth year and looks forward to being back next time."
