The first round of Cultural Ambition trainees reflect on their future

The first cohort of trainees from the Cultural Ambition project took part in a tailored employability and reflection session, led by careers adviser, Carolyn Parry from Career Alchemy.

Cultural Ambition is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Welsh Government and delivered by Creative & Cultural Skills. The 12-month traineeships are for young people who are non-graduate, and not in education, employment or training, and all trainees gain a level two qualification in Cultural Heritage.

The first round of trainees started their placements in September 2018 in heritage venues throughout Wales. As they reach the end of their traineeship, the Welsh team from Creative & Cultural Skills organised the Swansea-based careers course to help them to think about their next steps.   

Carolyn Parry from Career Alchemy ran a bespoke session to help the trainees recognise the new skills they have developed through their placements, and to reflect on how those could be used in further employment or in looking at further education.  

Project Coordinator, Jo Esposti said, “Cultural Ambition isn’t just about giving young people the chance to work in a great heritage venue, it’s about giving them the skills to help them with their future careers. Offering them time to reflect on what they’ve learned and consider what they want to do next is part of our commitment to supporting their long-term development.”

Applications are open for Cohort 3 of Cultural Ambition until 30 August.
