Welsh National Opera Design Challenge Launched

 17 December 2018

The Welsh National Opera, in collaboration with Creative & Cultural Skills, has launched a new design challenge for 2018-19 focusing on using creativity to respond to a brief and design their own set.

Entries are welcomed from learners in education members of the National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural, and will be judged by industry professionals.

“We are thrilled to be entering our third year of the Welsh National Opera (WNO) Design Challenge in partnership with Creative & Cultural Skills.  It is important for us as a company to support emerging talent and to inspire the next generation of designers. We are very much looking forward to receiving different creative responses to the brief set for this year’s challenge.” says Jan Michaelis, WNO Technical Director.

Sarah Hughes, Creative & Cultural Skills Head of Skills Academy, Wales said, "This partnership with WNO means that young people can learn about the process of set design for a touring company and be really creative in their responses, regardless of what they are studying in college. Offering young people creative opportunities like these is a core part of what we do, and we’re excited to be working with the WNO  again. "
